Pyrenees Futures

Tuesday 22 May 2018, 3:33 PM

Pyrenees Futures is a town planning project Council is running in nine settlements during 2017. The project will produce Township Framework Plans that will guide how these settlements grow and develop.

The Township Framework Plans will identify the character and traits that make our towns distinctive, and use that as a basis to plan for a healthy, prosperous future.  The plans specifically address land use, urban design and the function of town centres.

We will be working progressively across the settlements of Beaufort, Snake Valley, Avoca, Waubra/Evansford, Lexton, Moonambel, Raglan, Amphitheatre and Landsborough during 2017.

Latest updates:

  • Following community engagment completed in 2017, plans are now being written for Beaufort, Avoca, Snake Valley, Lexton, Waubra and Raglan.
  • Read a summary of our community engagement in Beaufort, which is informing the Beaufort Township Framework Plan.
  • Read a summary of our community engagement in Snake Valley, which is informing the Snake Valley Township Framework Plan.

Framework Plans are now being drafted for six towns

We've had great involvement in Pyrenees Futures across six towns in 2017. Draft framework plans for Beaufort, Avoca, Snake Valley, Lexton, Waubra and Raglan are now being written, with a view to putting them on public exhibition for further feedback in mid-2018. Following public exhibition, Council will consider further feedback and then work to produce final plans for adoption.  These plans will inform future urban design, and contribute to a re-working of planning policies that guide development and change in each town.

All plans will be based on themes and input identified through community engagement conducted in each town.  You can now read summaries for engagement in BeaufortSnake Valley and Lexton; with others to be published soon.  The summaries provide an opportunity to test Council's initial engagement, to set the scene for the development of plans and to see if there's anything we've missed.

If you have any feedback on the themes identified in each town, or have further questions, get in touch with us by e-mailing

Planning for Moonambel, Amphitheatre and Landsborough

Council is starting community engagment for the development of framework plans for Moonambel, Amphitheatre and Landsborough.

In coming months, we will arrange an informal drop-in session in each town with further opportunities to be involved.

In the meantime, you can let us know your thoughts from your keyboard by completing a survey for your town by following the links below, or emailing

What will these framework plans do?

The final Township Framework Plans will lead to:

  • New township planning policies that will guide decisions on land rezoning, provide guidance to development applicants and inform Council’s assessment of planning applications.
  • Urban design guidelines that will focus on improving the look and function of town centres to make them even better places for people.

If you’re interested in getting involved in your town, email or contact Council’s Town Planning staff via 5349 1100.

We acknowledge the people past and present of the Wadawurrung, Dja Dja Wurrung, and Djab Wurrung tribes, whose land forms the Pyrenees Shire. We pay our respect to the customs, traditions and stewardship of the land by the elders and people of these tribes.
