Pyrenees Futures

Monday 03 July 2017, 12:02 PM

Pyrenees Futures is a town planning project Council is running in nine settlements during 2017. The project will produce Township Framework Plans that will guide how these settlements grow and develop.

The Township Framework Plans will identify the character and traits that make our towns distinctive, and use that as a basis to plan for a healthy, prosperous future.  The plans specifically address land use, urban design and the function of town centres.

We will be working progressively across the settlements of Beaufort, Snake Valley, Avoca, Waubra/Evansford, Lexton, Moonambel, Raglan, Amphitheatre and Landsborough during 2017.

Pyrenees Futures comes to Snake Valley!

If you have ideas on Snake Valley's future, now's the time to get involved!  Council has started community engagement as it develops the Snake Valley Township Framework Plan, and there will be lots of opportunities to get involved during June and July.

Start by checking out our survey online at or fill in a hard copy at the Snake Valley General Store.

You can also post images or thoughts on what you love about Snake Valley on Instagram or Twitter using the #pyreneesfutures hashtag.

We will also be running drop-in sessions during July.  We are also happy to come and speak with community groups.

Get in touch with us by e-mailing or contacting Council's Planning Department on 5349 1100.

Pyrenees Futures coming soon to Lexton and Waubra

In Lexton or Waubra?  Keep an eye out - because Pyrenees Futures will be coming your way soon.

Beaufort Township Framework Plan

Council has completed community engagement and is finalising technical investigations as we develop a draft framework plan for Beaufort as part of Pyrenees Futures.  This plan is being supported by the Victorian Planning Authority.

Through workshops, drop-in sessions, surveys and meetings we have heard from more than 100 community members.  We will shortly release a summary of what we've learned from our respondents, before we work towards finalising a draft framework plan for community feedback.

You can get in touch with us at for more information, or keep an eye on Council's Facebook page.

What will these framework plans do?

The final Township Framework Plans will lead to:

  • New township planning policies that will guide decisions on land rezoning, provide guidance to development applicants and inform Council’s assessment of planning applications.
  • Urban design guidelines that will focus on improving the look and function of town centres to make them even better places for people.

If you’re interested in getting involved in your town, email or contact Council’s Town Planning staff via 5349 1100.
