Living with Bushfire Conference

Tuesday 29 August 2017, 4:54 PM

Living with Bushfire is a reality for Victorians. Pyrenees Shire residents are invited to take part in a conference on the subject this October.

Council is a partner in the ‘Living with Bushfire’ conference which will be held at the Mt Helen Campus of Federation University.

The conference will be abuzz with emergency management experts come spring. The University, in partnership with local government (including Pyrenees Shire Council), state government departments and agencies and emergency services will be hosting the fourth annual ‘Living with Bushfire’ Community Conference on Friday October 6 and Saturday October 7.

The Conference, which has proved a huge success in other areas including Gippsland and the Yarra Ranges, will be timely coming into summer. The drier than average winter and with the weather outlook predicting drier and warmer weather over spring, it is imperative that communities remain informed and prepared leading up to and throughout the bushfire season.

Speakers at the conference will share practical information allowing community members to keep healthy and safe before, during and after bushfire events. To register for the event, please visit https://federation.edu.au/faculties-and-schools/faculty-of-science-and-technology/research/conferences/living-with-bushfire. At $25 per day ($50 for two days and $70 for both days and the Friday night conference dinner), the conference will be an invaluable experience for anyone living in bushfire prone areas and we strongly encourage residents to attend.

Pyrenees Shire Council is a proud partner in the ‘Living with Bushfire’ Community Conference and will be subsidising a limited number of places for residents of the municipality.
