| Getting down to business in the Pyrenees | | The Pyrenees Shire Council is preparing to launch the Business Expansion and Retention (BEAR) Program — a new project to support and develop businesses throughout the shire and reconnect people with their local communities.
This is the chance for the Pyrenees business community to share their thoughts on what helps and hinders their operation within their community, and to share their ideas for building a stronger local economy.
The BEAR Program is an extended community dialogue with owners and operators of local businesses about what their businesses need, and what ideas they have to improve the local economy. It is a way of strengthening communication between communities and businesses. It will raise the profile of businesses in the Pyrenees community, stimulate growth, and encourage a ‘Buy Local’ culture within the Pyrenees.
The BEAR Program will be launched in September. Further information will be issued as the program develops, by mail, in the media and on the Pyrenees Shire website (www.pyrenees.vic.gov.au). Direct contact will be made with businesses and community groups throughout the shire.
For more information please contact: Norman Prueter at the Beaufort Community Resource Centre: 5349 1183 — norman.prueter@pyrenees.vic.gov.au OR Maria Rice at the Shire office: 5349 1138 — maria.rice@pyrenees.vic.gov.au.
| Volunteers needed | | To help make the BEAR Program a success, the Pyrenees Shire is seeking volunteers from across the Pyrenees — particularly Avoca and Beaufort — to visit businesses and conduct surveys.
Volunteers will be trained in conducting the surveys. If you are interested in the economic future of your community, contact Maria Rice on 5349 1138 or Norman Prueter on 5349 1183. Or you can download an ‘expression of interest’ form Here
