Stock on Roads & Poor Fencing

The Impounding of Livestock Act 1994 has revised legislation relating to livestock. Officers are able to serve a notice on owners objecting to the trespassing of livestock on roads. Under the same legislation, officers have the power to serve notices on owners instructing them to adequately confine livestock.

On the spot fines - issued under the Impounding of Livestock Act 1994

Section of Act Description of offence Prescribed Penalty
25A Livestock trespassing after a notice is served $317.00
25B Failure to comply with a livestock fencing notice $634.00

It is important that owners regularly check their fencing and up grade it to a standard which keeps their stock contained. If you wish to report wandering animals please contact Pyrenees Shire Customer Service on 03 5349 1100 or Council Local Laws on 1800 813 163 (FREE CALL).
