Starting Up A Business

Pyrenees Shire takes a whole of Government approach in assisting start up businesses.

Because Beaufort sits astride the Western Highway with over 4,500 vehicle transits daily, opportunities for development are enormous. Recent studies have identified Beaufort as an ideal stopover point for travellers going towards Adelaide or to Melbourne. It is unique in that it is the first town out of Melbourne and the last town heading towards Melbourne with a two (2) hour timeframe. Council is proactively working with the local community to make the town the 'Stop of Choice'.

Similarly Avoca sits astride both the Pyrenees Highway between Maryborough & Ararat and the Sunraysia Highway between Melbourne & Mildura. Like Beaufort it is the first major town outside of Melbourne and the last Major town into Melbourne within a two-hour timeframe. It too has become the 'Stop of Choice' for travellers.

Council has land zoned for commercial and industrial purposes throughout the Shire.

Town water, sewerage and three phase power is available at the major towns of Beaufort & Avoca.

There is enormous tourism potential with the Shires rich gold mining history, unique architecture, magnificent bushlands adjacent National and State Parks, premium wineries which provide a substantive competitive advantage for premium accommodation, eco-tourism day tripper and backpacker attractions.

Through linkages with other Government Departments, we can assist in providing information on taxation especially Business Activity Statements, Business Planning workshops, location of your business and link in with Government Development funds, if appropriate.

Pyrenees Shire works closely with business to ensure not only that all Council services work collaboratively, but provide assistance/facilitation when business decides to expand.
