Septic Tanks

Installation or alteration of septic tanks in non-sewered areas requires a permit from Council. The Environmental Health Officer inspects and approves all septic tanks. It is an offence to commence work on any septic system without Council approval. Septic tanks are required for all dwellings not serviced by a reticulated sewerage system. For sewered areas, please contact your local Water Authority for more information.

Sufficient lead time should be allowed for the processing of septic tank permit applications when scheduling proposed starting dates for works projects.

Please find attached to this page Council's Septic Tank Application Form, information about managing your septic tank and about land capability assessments.
