Councillors

Councillors elected by the community set strategic directions for council, as well as playing a major role in the planning and delivering of services that meet community needs.

Pyrenees Shire has the following duly elected Councillors:

Avoca Ward - Cr John Quinn - Mayor

John settled in Avoca in 2002 after retiring from a career in various business and tourism ventures. He has been married to Judith for 43 years, and they have two adult sons. John, who was born in Ballarat and is a graduate of the Australian School of Pacific Administration, has a keen interest in local development issues. He also enjoys playing petanque.

Beaufort Ward - Cr Michael O'Connor

Michael's professional background is in personnel, training and development in a wide range of industries. He moved to the Pyrenees Shire in January 2000 and lives at Waterloo, where he runs a small farm and is actively involved in the CFA and Landcare. He is married to Judy and has four adult children.

Goldsmith Ward - Cr Alec Carson

Alec comes from farming background. He enjoys cricket and cooking. Alec is a long time St Kilda supporter. Alec and his wife Shirley, first moved to Snake Valley in 1978. After a 15 year break in Melbourne to pursue their respective careers, Alec and Shirley returned to Snake Valley in 2003 for their final tree change. Alec's current community involvement includes: Running the local Snake Valley web site, member of the Snake Valley CFA, treasurer of the Snake Valley Hall Committee of Management, assistant coach of the Carngham Crocs under 14 Cricket team, assisting local businesses to develop web sites and providing computer software training to residents at the resource centre.

Mitchell Ward - Cr David Clark

David and his wife Peta own and operate a mixed farming property at Glenbrae, in the centre of the Mitchell Riding. At Waubra, David is involved with the pre-school, the CFA and the Progress Association. He also works as project manager for Landcare in the area and is secretary/treasurer of the community co-operative that operates the Lexton Post Office. He was a councillor in the Pyrenees Shire from 1996-2004, and was Mayor in 2003-04 and 2009-10.

Warrenmang Ward - Cr Robert Vance

Cr Vance started his career in local government with the Avoca Shire Council, where he served from 1987 to 1994, including one term as Mayor. He joined the post-amalgamation Pyrenees Shire Council in 1996 when he was the Warrenmang Ward councillor from 1996 until 2002, and was Mayor in 1997-98.

Cr Vance returned to Council again to represent the Warrenmang Ward in March 2008, and was Mayor in 2008-09. Cr Vance represents council on the Asset Management Committee, Municipal Fire Prevention, Central Victorian Green House Alliance and Timber Towns. Cr Vance offers good honest representation and enjoys meeting up with the different committees from the smaller towns across Warrenmang Ward.

Cr Vance is a farmer in Landsborough and is married to Jan.
