Pyrenees Shire Council has adopted the revised Avoca Streetscape Plan, paving the way for projects to start.

The plan was amended following community feedback and will form the basis for street development works now and into the future.

The High Street dual lane carriageway in each direction will remain.

The plan focusses on improving walkability through the town with safer crossing points and additional footpaths.

Mayor Tanya Kehoe said Council would now utilise the $250,000 State Government grant on improvements.

“We will install street furniture, plant trees to improve shade and work on the pedestrian infrastructure sections of the plan,” Cr Kehoe said.

“Council will continue to advocate for further grants to implement more of the Streetscape Plan,” she said.

The Streetscape Plan includes provision for tourist bus parking and improved median vehicle crossing configurations to limit the possibility of vehicles travelling in the wrong direction. Council will also continue to engage with Regional Roads Victoria on improving road safety.

Council’s involvement with the community reference group on the project will be ongoing.

The replacement of the barbecue shelter and the installation of a new playground will continue as separate projects.

Large format copies of the streetscape plan are on display at the Avoca Information Centre.
