New bin roll out
Published on 11 August 2021
Council is rolling out 240L bins to new users of the kerbside waste and recycling system.
Rural properties being added to the system will receive a 240L recycling bin and a 240L landfill bin in the coming weeks.
240L bins are expected to be delivered to Council on Wednesday 11/8 and Friday 13/8. The expected delivery start date is Thursday, August 12.
Contractors will begin delivering these bins south of the Western Highway in the Streatham/Skipton vicinity and then move east towards Snake Valley.
These bins will be placed near to property gates or on the verge of roads near entrances.
The start of the collection of the bins is still to be determined, and Council will provide the information as soon as it is available.
“It is hoped we’ll have collection days finalised ready for a start in late August/early September,” Council CEO Jim Nolan said.
“Manufacturing delays at the factory mean we have only received a limited supply of bins for glass, and we’re hopeful of getting more 120L bins next week,” Mr Nolan said.
Residents in Beaufort have received a 120L purple-lidded bin for glass, and the majority of Avoca have also received a glass bin, with the remainder hopefully being delivered in the next week or two, depending on supply.
Replacement of burgundy and green lids on landfill bins has also commenced. Please continue to leave bins out on the day of collection for the next few weeks.
“We would like to thank the community for their patience as we move through one of the biggest changes to waste and recycling we’ve seen in long time,” Mayor Damian Ferrari said.
A rebate for the year’s waste and recycling services charges has been put in place because of the unexpected delay. New services will be receiving $75 off the service charge and existing users expecting a glass bin will receive a $15 rebate on the 2021/22 charge. This information will be included in your upcoming 2021/22 Rates and Charges Notice.
Residents can contact Council on 1300 797 363 for any questions in relation to the new waste and recycling services.
