Preparation for the upcoming fire season is underway, and Pyrenees Shire Council is supporting residents to clean up around their properties with a free green waste disposal offer.

Pyrenees Shire Council is again offering free green waste disposal at its transfer stations in Avoca, Beaufort, Landsborough and Snake Valley.

Pyrenees Shire Council Mayor David Clark said residents could clean up their properties and dispose of their green waste for free for a period of three weeks, starting with Fire Action Week on October 12 until November 2.

“This year’s fire season is predicted to be longer than usual, so we’re extending the usual two week offer to three weeks to encourage residents to get ready for the fire season,” Cr Clark said.

“Residents are also encouraged to discuss their fire plans with their families, to ensure they are ready if a fire impacts on them,” he said.

Council’s free green waste offer is open to residents of the Pyrenees Shire only; proof of residency may be requested. Residents can dispose of green waste, leaf litter, grass clippings and small tree branches. Large trees and deposits from commercial enterprises are not part of this offer.
