Pyrenees Shire Council is investing $50,000 to develop a Masterplan for the Goldfields Recreation Reserve in Beaufort.

An important focal point for the town, the reserve includes Beaufort Lake, which is a popular spot for boating and fishing, a multipurpose community building, caravan park, sporting ground, netball courts and facilities. The area is also adjacent to the town’s primary and secondary schools.

Pyrenees Mayor, Cr Damian Ferrari, said that the Shire’s 2017 Recreation Strategy highlighted the Masterplan as a key project to drive community use of the precinct.

“The purpose of the Masterplan is to help guide future developments in a logical, well planned way,” Cr Ferrari said.

“We will be looking for feedback from the community as to what shape this Masterplan takes, and we’re really excited about making the most of this great community asset,” Cr Ferrari said.

Beaufort Lake Foreshore is currently undergoing works to improve the amenity of the area for users, the project includes new plantings and earthworks, formalised paths, new parking spaces (including a disabled parking space), new seating and a number of nature-based play areas for children.

“The area is a hub for Beaufort, everyone from walkers, the football, tennis and netball clubs to the annual Beaufort Agricultural Show utilise the reserve, so we would like to ensure it remains relevant and up to date with the community’s needs,” Cr Ferrari said.
