The Lexton community is getting a boost thanks to the Andrews Labor Government with the construction of a new community hub including female friendly sports facilities at Lexton Recreation Reserve.

Victorian Treasurer Tim Pallas today announced a Labor Government funding package of $800,000 including $300,000 from the Female Friendly Facilities Fund to make the hub a reality.

The reserve is the hub of the local community, used by the Lexton Football Netball Club, Cricket Club, Golf Club and racecourse, however its facilities are not up to modern standards and not appropriate for women and girls.

The upgraded pavilion will include female friendly change rooms, female friendly officials change rooms and amenities, club storage rooms, multi-purpose training and community spaces, a first aid room and a covered spectator area. All change facilities and public amenities will be fully accessible.

The Labor Government is promoting sports and active recreation and encouraging all Victorians to get out there and get active.

Across Victoria we’ve already invested $420 million in community sport and recreation facilities and are investing almost half a billion dollars in the Victorian Budget 2018/19 to ensure sport and active recreation go from strength to strength, including more than $100 million to improve facilities and access for women.

The Treasurer acknowledged the significant financial contribution of the Pyrenees Shire Council and local sports clubs to progressing the project, including $200,000 from the user groups

“Sporting clubs are often the heart and soul of regional Victoria, and the Andrews Labor Government is giving them the facilities they need so more locals can play the sports they love," he said.

Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford said: “This project will go a long way towards helping the Lexton community and clubs cater for the growing numbers of girls and women keen to get involved in sport and community activities.
