Pyrenees Shire Library Outreach Returns

Published on 25 February 2021

Pyrenees Shire Council Libraries are excited to inform the community that library outreach services will resume next week.

Outreach services involve taking book selections to the smaller communities of the area including Lexton, Landsborough and Snake Valley.

The outreach service will be supported by a new member of the team in coming weeks, a library bus.

Pyrenees Shire Council CEO Jim Nolan said the Book Lovers Bus is a miniature library on wheels.

“The bus will contain a book collection that won’t have to be carted in and out of the library, saving staff time and improving safety for staff,” Mr Nolan said.

“The community will have a greater variety of books to choose from,” he said.

“Council received funding from the Living Libraries program from the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning to buy and fit out a dedicated vehicle.”

The Renault Master Bus has been fitted out with shelving, an awning on the side and will be an eye-catching vehicle with a sign-wrapped exterior.

Outreach services will resume their fortnightly pattern of calls on Tuesday, 2 March, starting with Lexton, followed by Landsborough on Tuesday, 9 March. The weekly Snake Valley service will resume on Wednesday, 3 March.

The bus is expected to be on the road sometime during April, so keep an eye out for details of developments as they occur.  Planning is underway to expand the circuit of Outreach stops to smaller communities throughout the Shire, so please send in your ideas and comments, which will be important in helping us shape the future services that are delivered.

Outreach services were modified during the COVID-19 shutdown last year, with personal book bags offered to customers, and this service will continue for those who require it.

This will be the first time in nearly 12 months the service has return to full capacity.
