Pyrenees Shire Council has been named the top mobile phone recycler in Victoria per capita by MobileMuster.

"We would like to congratulate our residents for being proactive and recycling their old mobile phones," Council CEO Jim Nolan said.

"Valuable resources such as gold are contained in phones and can be reused for other goods," Mr Nolan said.

"The news that we are the MobileMuster Top Local Government Recyclers Per Capita is a great sign ahead of the upcoming e-waste ban which came into force this week," he said.

Council has been involved in the MobileMuster recycling program since 2012.

Residents can pick up an e-waste bag from our resource centres in Beaufort and Avoca and at the Lawrence Street office to collect their small items to bring in to be recycled or disposed of safely.
