Children and families from all over the Pyrenees Shire came together to dance, sing and smile as part of Children’s Week celebrations at the Avoca Preschool on Wednesday.

The fun-filled event was hosted by The Pyrenees Shire Council, the Avoca Preschool and the Avoca Playgroup, with support from the Victorian Government.

Ryans IGA kindly donated a morning tea of beautiful, fresh produce for the happy, hungry participants.

Children’s Week celebrates the right of children to enjoy childhood. It showcases children’s achievements while providing educational experiences for them and their families.

The Children’s Week concert in Avoca was a success, there were families from Avoca, Moonambel, Lexton, Waubra, Burnbank, Beaufort & Ballarat.

Throughout the morning the children joined Pickles, from Hey Dee Ho music, and her soft puppet friend Billy the Bilby on an imagination-sparking musical adventure through the Australian bush.

There was plenty of singing, dancing and laughter, along with lots of positive feedback from families throughout the morning.

“We are so grateful to have had this opportunity to provide the young children and families of the Pyrenees Shire with a free, fun, safe, party-like activity to enjoy,” said Genevieve Welsh, Pyrenees Shire Council’s Supported Playgroup Facilitator. “Like so many other small communities, local families have experienced hardship and disconnection throughout the pandemic and now are recovering from the trauma of recent flood events. We hoped this event would bring a little bit of sunshine and joy, and based on the smiles we’ve seen today, it definitely succeeded.”
