Should Council remove the footbridge at Lexton?

Following community feedback after the flooding events of October 2022, Council is deciding whether to remove the footbridge that crosses Burbank Creek between Anderson St and the Sunraysia Highway, about 50 metres northwest of the post office.

During the recent flood debris became trapped on the bridge. The removal of the bridge may help keep the waterway clear and mitigate the effect of flooding on the town in the future.

The issue was raised as part of a petition and request for action from the Lexton community presented to Council in December.

The current bridge was built in 1990, replacing an older bridge. Since then the town layout has changed, meaning it sees limited use.

Council is seeking input from the community on whether the bridge should be removed before any decision on its future is made.

If you use the bridge or have an opinion on whether or not it should be removed, we would really like to hear from you.
