Pyrenees Shire Council has been closely aligned to Visit Ballarat in promoting and supporting tourism across the region which has benefited both Ballarat and the region.

Council was made aware of the proposal by the City of Ballarat to cease funding Visit Ballarat, moving to a new “Ballarat is Open” approach to tourism a day before the public announcement.

The tourism sector and in particular wine tourism is a major contributor to the Pyrenees economy.

It is Pyrenees Shire Council’s intention to continue to promote and support the sector in the best way possible to ensure the sector continues to grow.

In light of recent events, PSC will be considering a range of new opportunities in tourism, and would welcome the opportunity for ongoing discussion with the Pyrenees tourism operators.

We are committed to attracting visitors to the Pyrenees region to enjoy our natural resources, wineries and fantastic food premises.

Council is hosting two forums to meet with tourism operators and gather their thoughts on the way forward.

  • Monday 5 August commencing 6pm at the RTC room at the back of the Avoca Information Centre
