Pyrenees Shire Council today announced that the Twin Bridges on the Landsborough-Elmhurst Road at Glenlofty have officially been completed.

The $1.7million capital construction project was undertaken in conjunction with Ararat Rural City Council and was also supported by a grant from the Federal Government’s Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development.

Pyrenees Shire Council CEO Jim Nolan said Council was committed to improving rural infrastructure to benefit local residents and businesses.

“We’re working hard to upgrade our local link roads to B-Double standard to better connect our rural communities,” Mr Nolan said. “Capital works like this are a great opportunity for regional Councils to work together and ensure that we’re providing residents and visitors with safe roadways.”

Ararat Rural City Council CEO Dr Tim Harrison said the partnership between the two councils had proven successful, with the work completed in just eight weeks.

“The new bridges will provide a safe connection for local residents for many years to come, which is a great outcome for everyone,” he said.

The works were contracted to CASA Engineering and began on 28 October 2019. The Road was re-opened before Christmas 2019 as scheduled, and speed restrictions for the Landsborough-Elmhurst Road have been lifted following the completion of line markings.

The Twin Bridges cross two branches of the Wimmera River on the Landsborough-Elmhurst Road at Glenlofty. The Landsborough-Elmhurst Road services towns in both the Pyrenees Shire and Ararat City Council areas.
