Tourism in the Pyrenees

The Pyrenees Wine Region, about half an hour outside Ballarat, is the sort of place you can visit on a day trip or quite happily potter around for a week – however long you manage to stretch your trip out for, you can’t really help but have your fair share of delicious food and locally produced wine.

There are dozens of cellar doors where you can pick up a bottle or two or enjoy a relaxing lunch. Five Pyrenees wineries have been awarded 5 red stars in wine critic James Halliday’s most recent Australian Wine Companion.

Eating and drinking isn’t all there is to do here – it’s a gorgeous part of the country, with great spots to picnic, bushwalk, mountain bike and 4WD in the Mount Cole and Pyrenees State Forests – some tracks most suitable for the super experienced.

Visit Pyrenees is Pyrenees Shire Council's tourism website, accessible via Visit Pyrenees.

Pyrenees Shire Council have developed a Marketing Strategy and Recovery Plan to attract travellers back to the Pyrenees Region post Covid. The strategy provides Council with an effective approach to marketing the Pyrenees that is both proactive and forward thinking.
