Pyrenees Shire Council’s consultation sessions on Draft Planning Scheme Amendment C52pyr have completed, with more than 120 participants attending.

These proposed updates to the Pyrenees Planning Scheme will help ensure future development in flood-prone areas is designed and built with flood risk in mind. The updated controls will also help protect existing buildings and properties from inappropriate development within the floodplain, with 1600 properties across the Shire affected.

Acting CEO Douglas Gowans said he was very pleased with the attendance at the consultation sessions, with most of the feedback generally positive.

“While a small number of submissions have been received to date, there is still time to provide feedback to Council with submissions open until Monday 27 July,” Mr Gowans said.

All submissions must be submitted in writing, either by letter to 5 Lawrence Street, Beaufort or email pyrenees@pyrenees.vic.gov.au, and include the following:

• Your reasons for making a submission
• Suggestions to help Council resolve your submissions
• Your postal address
• Your phone number

Any unresolved submissions may be referred to the Standing Advisory Committee (SAC) for flood-related amendments for consideration or discussed directly with submitters by the Planning Minister. Submitters will be notified if their submission is to be considered by the SAC or if they will be contacted by the Planning Minister.
