Road naming

Street sign reading 'Trawalla 6' and 'Trawalla Waterloo Road'

New roads need road names and sometimes old roads need to be renamed. Geographic Names Victoria oversees the naming of roads and places in Victoria following the naming rules.

The naming rules are based on national standards and policies. They provide a strong basis for standardised and clear naming procedures across the state.

Help Shape the Pyrenees - Suggest a Road Name!

Did you know you can nominate names for future roads in Pyrenees Shire?

Council maintains a road name bank and welcomes suggestions that reflect our local history, people, landscapes and community identity. All proposed names must comply with the Victorian Naming Rules for Places, which help ensure road names are unique, meaningful and easy to locate in an emergency.

If you have a great idea for a future road name, we'd love to hear from you. Submit a road naming proposal now!

Please complete the Road Naming Proposal Application Form and send to pyrenees@pyrenees.vic.gov.au along with any associated documentation.
