Naming / Re-Naming of Roads - August 2025

Proposed Naming/Renaming of Roads

At its Ordinary meeting held on 21^st July 2025 Council resolved to name two unnamed roads within the Pyrenees Shire using commemorative naming.  The following proposed road name changes are advertised for public comment:

Naming Proposal #: NP 50

Proposed Road: Kathleen Street

Previous Name: Un-Named Road

Location: The road runs between Homebush Road and Station Street in a South-Easterly direction.

Distance: 167 metres

Naming Proposal #: NP 51

Proposed Road: Rose Mary Way

Previous Name: Un-Named Road

Location: This roadway joins Davy Street with Camp Street, between Napier and High Street, in a North-South direction.

Distance: 194 metres

Council invites residents to forward a submission for the naming/re-naming of these. Plans highlighting the affected roads can be viewed via the links on this page or at the Beaufort Office, 5 Lawrence Street, Beaufort and at the Avoca Information Centre at 122 High Street, Avoca.

Submissions will be received until Friday 29^th of August, after which Council will consider all submissions and resolve names accordingly.

Submissions can be made via the form below or via email to pyrenees@pyrenees.vic.gov.au or post, addressed to: Pyrenees Shire Council, 5 Lawrence Street, Beaufort 3373.  Please ensure you reference the correct naming proposal.

The Office of Geographic Names has requested that as part of the gazetting of commemorative road names, proposed above, that Council obtains consent from the descendants (where possible) of the historic families.

As part of the naming process, Council is seeking to contact descendants of:

1. Kathleen Lucy Walker, born in Avoca 1890, Staff Nurse in the AANS during WWI.
2. Sister Rose Mary Walker, born in Avoca 1889, served during WWI as an Enlisted Nurse.

Council invites descendants of these residents to contact Council to discuss the proposed use of their family name for commemorative road naming.
