Local young artists – get your paints, pencils, clay or cameras ready!

Pyrenees Shire Council is excited to announce the launch of its 2026 Youth Art Competition, running from 1 July to 31 August 2026.

Shining a spotlight on local youth creativity, the competition is open to all secondary school-aged young people who live, study, work, or participate in activities within the Pyrenees Shire.

Five winners will each receive a $200 gift card prize, and selected artworks may also be featured across Pyrenees Shire Council youth publications, promotional materials, social media campaigns, and community engagement activities.

This year’s theme, “Good Things Grow Here,” invites young artists to explore the Pyrenees through their own lens—celebrating place, identity, growth and community through creative expression.

Mayor Cr Damian Ferrari said the competition is a fantastic opportunity for young people to showcase their creativity and celebrate their connection to the region.

“Our young people have incredible talent and unique perspectives, and this competition is a wonderful way to support and recognise their creativity,” Cr Ferrari said.

“The theme ‘Good Things Grow Here’ is all about celebrating what makes the Pyrenees special, and I’m looking forward to seeing how our young artists interpret this through their work.”

Entries are welcome across a broad range of artistic mediums, including:

  • Photography
  • Painting
  • Drawing
  • Sculpture
  • Digital art
  • Mixed media
  • Other visual art forms

Participants may submit up to five artworks, which can be either newly created or existing pieces.

Entries will be judged by Council and community representatives based on:

  • Creativity and originality
  • Artistic effort and presentation
  • Connection to the theme
