Beaufort Art Trax are hosting a new exhibition "Eclecticism" by Jon Lam

Jon Lam “Eclecticism” Exhibition Statement

As a graphic artist and an educator, Jon Lam has cultivated a wide-ranging practice that reflects his enduring curiosity and commitment to his craft. This exhibition highlights his multidisciplinary achievements and serves, in part, as a retrospective of his four-decade career.

Lam’s art seamlessly blends traditional and contemporary approaches, enriched by his study and practice of Buddhism, Confucianism, Daoism, Qigong, and Tai Chi. These philosophies inform his work with a sense of balance, presence, and lived experience. Proficient in oils, acrylics, watercolour, pastel, and pen and ink, he explores landscapes, streetscapes, portraits, and still life. Often painting en plein air, he captures atmosphere and immediacy with expressive impact.

Lam has held twelve solo exhibitions and is celebrated for his murals, including a prizewinning work in Rochester and a large-scale mural in Smythesdale for the Woardy Yaloak Historical Society. He is currently Second Vice President of the Ballarat Society of Artists, a past president of the Whitehorse Arts Society, and an active member of Ballarat Arts Alive and the Contemporary Arts Society of Victoria.

This exhibition invites viewers to reflect, pause, and engage with the spirit of his practice.
