Pyrenees Shire Council begins fire prevention works
Published on 13 November 2025
Pyrenees Shire Council has begun essential fire prevention works, coinciding with the start of the municipality’s Fire Restriction Period.
Roadside slashing has begun in the Shire’s north, and grass cutting is underway at the municipality’s 10 Neighbourhood Safe Places, which act as places of last resort during bushfires. Council officers have also started fire prevention inspections in northern areas, with work in the south scheduled to begin shortly.
Council CEO Jim Nolan emphasised the importance of preparation as temperatures rise and fire risk increases.
“There is an above-average fire potential season predicted, and Council is working hard to prepare our roadsides and clear them of dry fuel,” Mr Nolan said.
He encouraged residents to reduce fire risk on their properties by:
• Keeping grass under 100mm during the Fire Danger Period.
• Removing leaf litter, grass clippings and fallen branches from around homes.
• Cleaning gutters of leaves and debris.
• Appropriate disposal of old car bodies and other fire hazards.
• Moving wood piles and flammable items away from buildings.
• Ensuring adequate water supply and storage for firefighting purposes.
“It’s also important to have a fire plan for you and your family,” Mr Nolan added.
