The Pyrenees Shire Council is proud to celebrate the achievements of fifteen Year 7 and 8 students from Beaufort Secondary College (BSC) who have completed the pilot EPIC youth leadership program.

EPIC was branded by local young people, as an acronym for Empowering Pyrenees, Inspiring Change. Over the course of the program, participants explored leadership values, communication, teamwork, and the power of youth voice in shaping our community.

"EPIC was created to empower young people with leadership skills, confidence and a strong sense of community connection," Pyrenees Shire Council Mayor Damian Ferrari said.

"Our first group of participants brought energy, creativity, and a willingness to step up and challenge themselves. Their achievements have set a wonderful foundation for youth leadership across our Shire."

Cr. Ferrari commended the students for their enthusiasm, growth, and commitment across the program.

"We deeply appreciate the enthusiasm and commitment shown by college staff and leadership. Their collaboration has been essential to the success of our first EPIC program. This initiative demonstrates the value of partnerships between schools, Council and community, working together to support young people."

Following the success of the pilot, EPIC will continue for Year 7 and 8 students in Semester 2 next year. In Semester 1, Council will launch the new Emerging Leaders program for Years 9 to 11. Council hopes to see many EPIC graduates continue into this next stage of their leadership development.

Looking ahead, Pyrenees Shire Council is committed to expanding both EPIC and Emerging Leaders into additional communities and schools across the Shire. This long-term vision aims to ensure that all young people-regardless of where they live-have access to high-quality leadership and engagement opportunities.

"These programs are part of our broader goal to build a confident, connected generation of young people across the entire Pyrenees region," Cr. Ferrari said. "We are excited for what comes next."
