Snake Valley road works to improve traffic safety
Published on 17 February 2026
Pyrenees Shire Council will introduce road changes in Snake Valley to improve safety and reduce vehicle speeds.
Works will begin on 23 February to install three speed humps near the Snake Valley Primary School and an altered township entrance on Snake Valley–Smythesdale Road.
Residents and road users are advised that temporary traffic disruptions will occur during construction. This will include traffic control and speed reductions in place.
The decision to introduce these measures has been informed by traffic count and speed data, TAC accident data, and alignment with the Victorian Road Safety Strategy.
Pyrenees Shire Council Mayor Damian Ferrari said: "The safety of our residents and visitors is our top priority. These traffic calming measures will help slow down traffic, reduce the risk of accidents, and make our townships safer and more welcoming for everyone.
We thank the community for their patience while these works are underway."
The project is funded through the Transport Accident Commission’s Safe Local Roads and Streets Program, which supports councils to deliver infrastructure improvements that reduce the risk and severity of road trauma.
