The Western Bulldogs Community Foundation Youth Leadership Program will return to the Pyrenees this year.

Pyrenees Shire Council is looking for 15 young people aged between 14 and 17 years to take part in this free leadership training.

The program gives aspiring young leaders the chance to plan and deliver community projects, build leadership skills and experience, network with other young people and community leaders, as well as over $2000 of leadership training for free.

“It’s great to have this program come back to Pyrenees again this year. It’s important that we keep supporting young people and giving them opportunities to step up and be involved in their community,” Pyrenees Shire Council Mayor Cr Ron Eason said.

Council’s community development team is actively recruiting young people for the program, encouraging young people from around the Shire to put in an expression of interest to be part of the 2023 young leaders program.

“We’re always looking for young voices at Council to let us know what they need from us. Young people are the future here, they’ll be our leaders then, it’s important for them to get the training now to start speaking up so it comes naturally to them when they’re older,” Cr Eason said.

This year’s program will see young people from around the Shire build an exciting new structure for ongoing youth engagement and leadership in the Shire.

“It’s important for young people to take any opportunities they can to build their leadership skills, it’s important for their future and the future of our communities,” Cr Eason said.

Registrations are now open with the program set to start in August. Young people from across the Shire will be supported to take part in the program.
