Everyone deserves to live in a community where they feel safe, valued and respected. Yet today, more than one in three women experience violence perpetrated by men. Safety and respect for women are not guaranteed, but together, we can change this.
Each year, from 25 November to 10 December, communities across the globe take part in the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, a campaign led by UN Women. These dates link the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women with Human Rights Day, reminding us that freedom from violence is a fundamental human right.
During the 16 Days, people everywhere come together to raise awareness, support survivors, and take action to prevent violence against women and girls. Our community is invited to join this global effort and help build a safer, more respectful world for everyone.
Pyrenees Shire Council is proud to be supporting the 16 Days of Activism campaign. Council is committed to supporting the program recognising that it is everyone’s responsibility to be active in addressing gender inequalities and gender-based violence.
Visit https://www.respectvictoria.vic.gov.au for more information on the campaign.
Join us for a community walk during the 16 Days of Activism and take a stand for safety, respect, and a future free from gender-based violence.
