Pyrenees Shire Council is super excited to learn an additional $2.789 million is headed our way for local roads and community infrastructure.

The Federal Government announced a Phase Three round of funding in the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

This funding allocation brings the Pyrenees’ allocation under the program to $5.31M.

Mayor Damian Ferrari said this funding would greatly help Council to maintain and upgrade key community infrastructure.

“We have used the first two phases of funding program for road upgrades, better floodways, intersection improvements, upgrading swimming pools and footpaths,” Cr Ferrari said.

“Funding from this program has also gone towards the Lexton Hub which we are currently building, and we have committed funds for the replacement of the Waubra bowling green,” he said.

CEO Jim Nolan said Council would work through a process to determine the most suitable projects which could be undertaken in phase three of the program.

“We would like to thank the Federal Government and our local members Dr Anne Webster MP and Dan Tehan MP for this additional allocation,” he said.

“The key thing about this funding is that Council has the ability to determine where the funds can be best spent on infrastructure to benefit our communities, and as a small rural council grants make up a large proportion of our operating budget.”

“We look forward to continuing to work with the Federal Government on many of our projects in Pyrenees.

The funding can be accessed from January 2022 and projects need to be delivered by June 30 2023.

“This Budget injection for our hard-working local councils means even more funding for upgrades to local roads, bike paths, community halls, playgrounds, parks and sports facilities, as well as improved accessibility to public facilities,” Dr Anne Webster said.
