The Old Beaufort Primary School Master Plan stage one is nearing completion with the final report now being finalised.

Public Realm Lab has been working with Pyrenees Shire Council and the community to develop the plan which will be presented to the Victorian Government next month.

Council has also begun planning for the project’s stage two, with a draft early works plan prepared to protect the site’s heritage buildings and remove non-heritage buildings, walkways and fixtures.

A heritage expert will now develop detailed designs on how to preserve the site’s heritage components.

Pyrenees Shire Council Mayor Damian Ferrari said the project was an important step in securing the former school site’s future.

“This master plan provides a clear and staged pathway for the future of the Old Beaufort Primary School,” Cr Ferrari said.

“Protecting the heritage buildings is a priority, and these early works will ensure the site is preserved until funding is provided for the next phase.”

Future work to establish a multi-use community hub at the site will depend on a site ownership decision and funding availability.

Cr Ferrari said Council would continue advocating to the Victorian Government for the funding to see the site revitalised for community use.

“We know this site is important to the Beaufort community. Council will continue working with the Victorian Government to progress the next steps.

Further updates will be provided as the project progresses. For more information, go to pyrenees.vic.gov.au/Community/Old-Beaufort-Primary-School
