A new Roadside Rehabilitation Plan to support recovery in areas impacted by the 2024 Bayindeen–Rocky Road bushfire is now available on the Pyrenees Shire Council website.

The plan focuses on roadsides surrounding Mount Cole and provides a practical framework to guide environmental recovery following the devastating fire.

Developed under the guidance of the Raglan/Mount Cole Roadside Rehabilitation Committee, the plan outlines a coordinated approach to restoring roadside vegetation and ecosystems. The committee works collaboratively to develop a program that prioritises biodiversity, strengthens habitat connectivity, and reduces the spread of invasive species.

Mayor Cr Damian Ferrari said the plan was an important step in supporting long-term environmental recovery across the region.

“Recovering from a fire of this scale takes time, care and collaboration,” Cr Ferrari said.

“This plan provides our community with practical, locally informed guidance to help restore native vegetation, protect biodiversity and ensure our landscapes recover in a way that is resilient into the future.”

The document serves as a valuable resource for land managers, community members and environmental groups, offering guidance on rehabilitating native vegetation and identifying many locally and regionally significant plant species.

Community members are invited to learn more about the plan at an upcoming Recovery and Resilience Education Session. The session will be held at Raglan Hall on Thursday 14 May from 6pm to 8pm and will include a presentation and Q&A with the plan’s authors, Geordie Scott-Walker and Karl Just.

Council encourages anyone with an interest in environmental recovery and land management to attend.
