Draft Budget and Strategic Plans to go out for consultation
Published on 13 May 2025
Pyrenees Shire Council will release its 2025-26 Draft Budget for public consultation.
Council will also put drafts of its Council Plan 2025-29, Community Vision 2021-2031, Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan 2025-29, Revenue and Rating Plan and 10-year Financial Plan out for public exhibition.
Pyrenees Shire Mayor Cr Tanya Kehoe said the proposed $35.3 million budget would help the municipality grow and develop.
“This Draft Budget reflects our commitment to responsible financial management, while continuing to deliver the services and infrastructure our residents rely on every day,” Cr Kehoe said.
“This Draft Budget ensures that every dollar spent delivers value and aligns with our communities’ shared priorities.
“We also aim to keep our rate rise to just three per cent, in line with the Victorian Government’s 2025-26 rate cap.”
Cr Kehoe said the Draft Budget was investing in what matters most: roads, bridges, drainage, community facilities and a thriving economy.
“We know the road network is very important to residents, so we are working hard to maintain our 2000 kilometres of road, upgrade some of our 150 bridges and invest in our drainage system.
“Key project investments would include a substantial financial contribution to the Beaufort Key Worker Accommodation Project plus funding for the Beaufort Off-Lead Dog Park, our libraries and transfer station.”
Highlights of the other strategic plans out for public consultation include:
1. Revenue and Rating Plan
The vacant land rate is proposed to be consolidated into one rate, instead of three, as part of a fairer adjustment of the rating system
2. Council Plan 2025-29
We are working together to create change
By prioritising our residents, economy, natural environment and infrastructure, we will create a better place to live, work, visit and invest in
3. Community Vision 2021-31
We want to ensure our Community Vision reflects the current needs of our people
It will help lead the way for our residents until 2031
4. Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan 2025-29
We want to encourage healthier eating and active living
We aim to create a safer community
We want to connect with our residents and support mental wellbeing
We hope to support our population through all stages of life
We aim to be a climate resilient community
