Pyrenees Shire Council is calling for public input after a Beaufort Off-Leash Dog Park concept plan was created.

The plan is available for viewing on our website or in hard copy at Council’s Beaufort office or the Beaufort Community Resource Centre.

The park is proposed to be developed after Council received a 2021 petition and then carried out a further extensive community consultation process.

It is proposed to be located on vacant land north of the Beaufort Skate Park at Beggs Street with frontage to Pratt Street.

The proposed plan is to transform into a fully fenced park, featuring native vegetation, shaded seating, hydration stations, Indigenous plantings and interpretive signs.

Connecting to other key community assets such as the nearby playground and skate park, it will serve as a year-round hub for off-leash dog exercise, dog obedience training and canine events.

It is also aimed at attracting travellers from the nearby Western Highway to have a break and stop-over, supporting local businesses while promoting health, well-being, and connectivity for residents and visitors.

The project is funded by $111,000 from the Victorian Government’s New and Upgraded Dog Park Program.

Pyrenees Shire Mayor Tanya Kehoe said creating an off-leash dog park will support community members who value the companionship of their dogs but lack a dedicated off-leash area where they can exercise them.

“We expect the park to be used by both residents and visitors alike adding another reason to why people should stop in Beaufort,” Cr Kehoe said.

“We want the park’s features to promote not only social cohesion but also environmental sustainability.”

The community can provide input to the park’s concept plan by either:
