Construction of the new Beaufort Lake bridge has been completed, with the original structure demolished after a condition assessment identified community safety concerns.

Contractors M Whelan Building and Construction, and LMK Earthworks carried out the $50,000 works which were funded through Pyrenees Shire Council’s Asset Renewal Program.

A temporary pedestrian track was established to ensure residents could still walk around the lake while the works were underway.

A new floating jetty will also soon be erected at the lake due to structural safety concerns over the original jetty.

It will be built near the caravan park swimming area, and will be L-shaped, extending out into the deeper water.

Pyrenees Shire Council CEO Jim Nolan said it was important to ensure Beaufort Lake’s infrastructure was maintained to a high standard.

“The lake is one of Beaufort’s most well-used public spaces and we need to provide suitable amenities to make sure residents can use it all-year round,” Mr Nolan said.

“The existing bridge and jetty were getting old and needed replacing with up-to-date infrastructure which will provide safer pedestrian and recreational use at Beaufort Lake.”
