A notice of decision for the Beaufort Key Worker Accommodation Project first stage planning permit has been approved by Pyrenees Shire Council.

Council approved the notice of decision for the subdivision of the 26 Burke Street land and construction of eight houses, subject to a wide range of conditions including landscaping, street tree provision, vehicle access, and payment of open space contributions.

The project is part of the Victorian Government’s Regional Worker Accommodation Fund, which provides new housing and accommodation for rural towns where key industry workers and their families are struggling to find places to live.

The fund supports employers to attract and retain workers to help stimulate economic growth and support the regions to thrive.

Eight houses will be built initially, with a further staged permit for two other houses.

Pyrenees Shire Mayor Cr Tanya Kehoe said the granting of the planning permit’s notice of decision was the first step in this very important project.

“Attracting key industry workers to this region is vital to boosting our economy,” Cr Kehoe said.

“These initial eight houses would give workers, and their families, secure and stable housing for the duration of their time in Pyrenees Shire.

“This project is a shining example of how fast this municipality is growing and developing and will provide valuable infrastructure that will be used for many years to come.”
