Stoneleigh intersection set for major safety upgrade
Published on 25 March 2026
Works to realign and improve road safety at the Carngham–Streatham Road and Mt William Road intersection at Stoneleigh have started.
Pyrenees Shire Council will deliver the project with support from a $586,560 investment through the TAC’s Safe Local Roads and Streets Program.
The upgrade will address the current “see-through” effect at the intersection, which can mislead drivers into thinking the road continues straight rather than forming a signed intersection.
The new design will stagger the Mt William Road approaches and square up the intersection, significantly improving sight distance and driver awareness.
The intersection was prioritised for improvement due to several key factors:
• Anticipated traffic volume increases on both Carngham–Streatham Road and Mt William Road
• A history of crashes at the site
• Its role as a key route for transporting agricultural products, including heavy vehicles
During this time, residents can expect some disruptions, including reduced speed limits, traffic management and possible detours. Council will provide updates as works progress.
Pyrenees Shire Council has received a total of $2 million through the Safe Local Roads and Streets Program to deliver a range of road safety improvements across the Shire.
