The traditional owners of the Beaufort area are the Wadawurrung People.
The works on the school crossing on Lawrence Street (also know as Skipton Road by Dept Transport & Planning) are focussed on road/pedestrian safety improvements and will include:
- Kerb outstands to reduce the crossing distance of pedestrians.
- Renewing/upgrading signage and bollards.
- Removing water ponding issues with drainage/grating.
- Constructing a raised pedestrian wombat crossing on the service road.
- Footpath widening.
Total funding for the project is $100,00.00 with $80,000 provided by the Department of Transport & Planning and $20,000 from Council's "2024/2025 Capital Works Program".
The works are due to commence on Monday 16th June 2025 and weather permitting should be completed by Monday 30th June 2025. During Construction, the existing school crossing will be temporarily moved north of its current location and will be supervised as per usual.
Access to residents will be maintained during the construction, but speed limits (40km/hour) will be in place during the daytime. Please respect and obey all temporary signage to ensure the safety of all residents and workers.
