Chemicals

Funded through the landfill levy, collected from all licensed landfills in Victoria, Sustainability Victoria provide a household chemical waste collection service to selected Victorian municipalities on a rostered basis. The roster is structured to allow residents throughout Victoria to be able to dispose of unwanted chemicals in their households when a service is provided in or near their own town.

Every household has products which are past their used by date or no longer wanted. The collection days allow for disposal of a range of surplus chemicals including old paints, poisons, pharmaceutical products, weed killers and rat poisons, kerosene and other fuels, oven cleaners, aerosol cans, pesticides, flammable liquids and other unknown liquids.

Sustainability Victoria runs regular Detox your Home events at different locations around the state. To find out if there is one nearby visit Sustainability Victoria's website.

Drum Muster Program

Council has joined the national Drum Muster program and is now collecting empty chemical drums for recycling at the Avoca and Beaufort transfer station facilities. This service is particularly useful to farmers and others undertaking landcare works and will play an important role in reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.

Please note the following:

  • Drums must be triple rinsed before being taken to the Transfer Stations.
  • Drums can only be dropped off at Transfer Stations on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
