Council is looking at options for the upcoming pool season following the YMCA’s decision to the withdraw from the current contract.

The YMCA had been offered a one-year extension to the current contract, but decided against this option.

Council had anticipated the YMCA fulfilling this one-year extension.

Officers are now working hard to engage another contractor to run the pools for the summer.

“We know how important our pools are to the Pyrenees community, and we are going do our level best to get them up and running come December,” Pyrenees Shire Council CEO Jim Nolan said.

“We are aware operating conditions in the current climate will pose an additional challenge,” Mr Nolan said.

“Council would like to thank the YMCA for providing this service to our community for the past 10 years.”

Council will continue to work with friends of the pool groups in Beaufort and Avoca and the community in Landsborough to get the pools open.
