National NAIDOC Week (2–9 July) is a time to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The 2023 theme “For Our Elders” celebrates the important role elders play as cultural knowledge holders, trailblazers, advocates and teachers.

Pyrenees Shire Council is marking NAIDOC Week with a series of events celebrating First Nations music, storytelling, art and culture at our Community Resource Centres in Avoca and Beaufort.

On Wednesday and Thursday, our library team is hosting an Author Talk with Gunaikurnai Elder Eileen Harrison who will talk about her book “Black Swan: A Koorie Woman’s Life”.

Pyrenees libraries will also be hosting Indigenous dot painting and craft activities throughout the week, along with dispays of  Indigenous flowers and books.

Check out the timetable below and visit our Pyrenees library Facebook page for more event details.
