Pyrenees Shire Council’s refreshed Community Funding Program is now open for applications.

The new-look program portal provides a step-by-step guide for local community groups, organisations, and businesses looking to deliver projects that benefit our thriving Pyrenees community.

A range of grants and subsidies covering events, projects, equipment, minor capital works, and one-off programs/activities can be accessed through the program.

Among them is a new Shop Façade Improvement program designed to encourage investment in our local shopping precincts and breathe new life into our beautiful streetscapes.

The Shop Façade Improvement is open to any business with street frontage in a commercial district. It offers matched dollar-for dollar funding of up to $5000 for eligible improvements such as painting, repair of verandas and awnings, lighting, signage, and access.

In addition to biannual grants, the Community Funding Program includes responsive grants of up to $750 to quickly assist with unexpected community need.

Applications for grants can be made through Council’s new online portal, where you will find a range of useful resources including comprehensive program guidelines, answers to your frequently asked questions, and information about other grant opportunities available through state and federal governments.

Council staff are available to assist community groups with grant applications, including how to apply online.

Community Funding Program information drop-in sessions are being held at the Avoca Information and Community Centre on 28 October from 2pm to 5pm, at Landsborough Hall on 31 October from 10am to 1pm, and Beaufort Community Resource Centre on 3 November from 2pm.

Applications for biannual grants take place in two rounds. Round one applications are now open until 21 November 2022. Round two of applications open on 23 January 2023.

Responsive grants and event signage subsidies run year-round, with applications closing at 12pm on the last Friday of each month.

“We are delighted to launch our new-and-improved Community Funding Program,” said Pyrenees Shire Mayor Ron Eason. “Applications for the range of funding opportunities available are now completed via the new online portal and Council staff are ready to provide support to community groups and businesses.

“There were some changes to requirements as part of the revamp, so it is important to speak to a Council Officer before lodging an application. This will ensure you understand the eligibility criteria and give your application the best chance of being successful.”

If you cannot make it to a drop-in session or need help with online applications, our Community Wellbeing and Grant Coordinator offers online support sessions by appointment.
