Renewable energy developer Acciona Energía has revealed more detail of its plans for a proposed 330MW wind farm between Waubra, Evansford and Clunes.

The Nyaninyuk wind farm would consist of 58 wind turbines generating enough power for the equivalent of 210,000 homes annually, according to Acciona Energía.

Nyaninyuk, pronounced Na-ni-nook, is the name for Mt Beckworth in the local language of the Dja Dja Wurrung people.

The company says the project would represent a AUD $700 million investment into the area, creating 200 jobs during construction and 10 on-going permanent roles.

“What we’re sharing today are initial details of the proposed project as it stands now," said Acciona Energia Spokesperson Melanie Sutton. “We have identified an area of interest and have a detailed boundary that we’re working within and want to share this with the community for feedback.”

Community information sessions will be held in August (see below for details) with the formal Environmental Effects Statement (EES) consultation process to follow in 2024.

“This early in the process we’re not just looking at the wind farm’s location but also how to design a community program around it that ensures income from the site is shared broadly around the community," said Ms Sutton. "We want to hear ideas and suggestions from the community about how we can craft this program to meet local needs.”

Acciona Energia also developed the Waubra, Mt Gellibrand and Mortlake South wind farms.
