Date set for tree removal in Snake Valley

The removal of cypress trees along Smythesdale – Snake Valley Road just east of the primary school will begin on 18 September.

Pyrenees Shire Council previously announced plans to remove the ageing trees which are in poor health and pose a danger to community safety.

To minimize the disruption to school life and local residents, the 17 trees will be removed during school holidays starting on Monday 18 September and ending on Friday 29 September.

During this period the Smythesdale-Snake Valley Road will be closed to through traffic from Carngham-Linton Road to Nunns Road during work hours, with detours in place. 

Wherever possible, smaller sections of the road will be closed where the work is concentrated so that local residents can get in and out of their properties as required.

Council awarded the contract to remove the trees to Surfcoast Tree Services following a tender process. Surfcoast Tree Services is a professional tree felling company with years of experience.

All the waste material will be removed from the area and the site left in a clean and tidy condition.

Following tree removal Council will undertake rehabilitation works to restore the walking track to a safe and workable condition. In the longer-term, a landscape plan will be developed to improve the amenity of the streetscape and replant the area with appropriate species.
